Bilingual Brand Ambassadors: Why Spanish-First Markets Need Spanish-First Staff

Bilingual Brand Ambassadors: Why Spanish-First Markets Need Spanish-First Staff

There's a meaningful difference between an ambassador who learned Spanish in high school and one who grew up speaking Spanish at home. In Miami, Houston, LA, and the entire Rio Grande Valley, the second one is going to drive 2 to 3x the conversation depth. The first is going to deliver an awkward translated version of an English script.

We staff bilingual activations with what we call 'Spanish-first' ambassadors, heritage speakers who actively use Spanish in their daily lives, who code-switch naturally, and who can read a consumer's preference for Spanish vs. English within the first three seconds of a conversation. That fluency isn't a checkbox on a casting sheet. It's the activation.

Regional dialect matters. A Cuban-American ambassador in Miami is going to have a fundamentally different conversation than a Mexican-American ambassador in San Antonio. For national CPG brands targeting pan-Hispanic audiences, the answer is regional staffing, not a single bilingual team flown between cities.

The brief and creative assets need to come in both languages from day one. If your script is written in English and 'translated' to Spanish a week before the event, your Spanish-language conversation is going to feel like a translation. Brief in parallel, in both languages, with native speakers writing both.
